Tree of the Week showcases some of the biggest and ^1. de vackraste ^{1 p.} trees in the Greater Toronto Area. Here, Wayne Donnelly tells us about an English oak growing in his Orangeville neighbourhood that he’s watched thrive and loved for almost 45 years.

In the 1950s, our former neighbours, Clifford and Thelma Duckworth, took a trip to England, ^2. som ^{1 p.} included a stop at Buckingham Palace.

^3. Medan han promenerade ^{1 p.} around the palace grounds, Clifford picked up five acorns as living souvenirs. He planted them in his backyard, but only one grew. The tree was an English oak.

All the original homeowners who lived on our street ^6. har uppfostrat ^{1 p.} their children and moved on. My wife, Dorothy, and I are now the residents who have lived longest on the street. We moved ^7. in i vårt hus ^{1 p.} in 1975, so for almost 45 years, I have enjoyed the beautiful tree.

Our neighbourhood and ^8. dess bakgårdar ^{1 p.} are home to many animals. Raccoons search for waste in the night and chipmunks and cottontail rabbits move about in a playful way and look for food ^9. dagtid ^{1 p.}.

There is also an abundance ^10. preposition ^{1 p.} squirrels, many of whom take refuge in the Royal English Oak.

I’m a little older than the Royal English Oak and I like to imagine all the changes it has seen over the years. I wish I could thank Clifford and Thelma for their regal gift, a living mosaic that has entertained me for decades.
